How to use the NetBeans Debugger

This session was September 20, 2014 3:45pm to 4:30pm in Classroom 2!

"Debugging" is a generic term, but there is also a specific tool called a "debugger". This tool allows you to step through code as it is being executed, and examine variables and branching logic as you go.

This session will cover:

  • When to use a debugger
  • Configuring MAMP/XDebug and NetBeans
  • Setting breakpoints
  • Starting a debugging session
  • Navigating the execution path
  • Examining variables

Debugging terms and principles are consistent across tools, so the process shown using NetBeans can be translated to PHPStorm, Eclipse, or other IDEs that include a debugger. However, this session will only cover configuring NetBeans.
